I
am Delali Quarshie, born and raised in Accra, the last of three children. I
work as a digital content creator and I aspire to work in media relations, one
day. I am passionate about family and friends because I believe everyone needs
to have at least one of each. If everyone in the world had one friend or family
member who truly loved and supported them, there would less tears in the world.

WHAT FUELS ME?
Imagination:
The ability to create your own reality, based off a single idea in your mind
has always fascinated me. The world’s greatest things came from imagination.
The inventor saw it in her/his mind, imagined the great thing it could become
and voila! Today, the world would possibly be chaos with that invention. Imagination
drives the world.

Hope:
Hope is like a lifeline we hold on to when there’s nothing else. We all need a
bit of hope, because gives us the chance to remain human, to still hope for
something new and different, is to still hold to the ray of sunlight still
inside you.

Passion:
Passion is what drives us to achieve what we want to achieve. To be passionate
is believe in an ideal that could so great with your own effort. That is what
drives me to wake up every day and try something new, different.

MY GREATEST INFLUENCE
The
realization that I could be stuck at a particular point in my life where I
stopped feeling and seeing, with no way forward is what pushed me to take the
steps I’ve taken today. The desire to not feel frozen in one space is what
pushes me all day to strive for something better.

TOP THREE ROLE MODELS
My
mum and sister. They are the strongest people I know. They have both been
through experiences that have pushed them beyond their limits and still they
made it, stronger and still smiling. They inspire me every day.

THE NEXT FIVE YEARS
That
is actually a tough one. I guess if I have to say, I possibly want to have set
off in my fancy career in media relations. I could say I want a nice car and a
cute apartment by then (giggles). However, in truth, I haven’t decided where I
want to be in 5 years. Maybe in my new career, maybe married, maybe travelling
the world. What I do know is in the next five years I want to be happy, the
happiest I can possibly be in whatever reality sinks in then.

THE AFRICAN WOMAN CHALLENGE
Stereotypes.
We are still being thought of as a certain way; even in the supposed modernity
we find ourselves, the African Woman cannot seem to escape the stereotypes, and
so-called gender roles that have been placed on us since days of old. I do not
stand for it and whenever I am caught in a situation I speak out, and do my
best to educate because if we do not try, as hard as we can to dispel these
‘bottles’ we’ve been placed in, we will still have a hard time becoming the
great women we are supposed to be.

VISION
– I.C.E. [INSPIRE|CELEBRATE|EMPOWER]
VISION
The
African woman should be celebrated because she is strong, smart and worthy. We
have been trendsetters for decades and still we are being ignored. It’s time to
change that. Being brushed off is no longer an option, there is too much
greatness ready to burst out of us; we have too many amazing things waiting for
us to get them started. If we have to break every wall to get to the top of the
ladder, to prove that an African woman has to power to change not just her
continent but the world too, she we should, break it all.

MY AFRICAN UNION DREAM
To
work in the public relations department. I would want to work with influencers
and global leaders to ensure that the communication barriers that seem to
always prevent women and children from receiving the help they deserve will be
broken down, and that the views and ideas that are brewing but never heard,
will be heard.

FINAL ADVICE
This
is quite tough as I tend to always look for advice myself. I have (and am)
still learning that is important to take the first step. There is always the
risk that what you want may not happen, but the victory in fact that you tried
anyways, that you got up from that comfortable stifling position and dared to
reach out is worth it.
